This is an English language information program for people living in or visiting the Yatsugatake area, inviting you to join in and experience some of the interesting local events. This is Noriko from the FM Yatsugatake studio in Kobuchisawa.

Info City, English Edition  17/18 + 24/25 February + 2/3 March 2024

On Sunday the 25th of February at the Sutama Fureai-kan Hall Sukoyaka Fureai Matsuri festival will be held from 1 o'clock in the afternoon. It is organised by the Kyohoku Silver Human Resources Centre. The Silver Human Resources Center is a public non-profit organization established based on the Act on Stabilization of Employment of Elderly Persons, etc. and certified as a public interest incorporated association by the governor. There will be three parts of events on the day, first part will be a live music performance by the J-POP Memorial Band HOT, second part: introducing silver members' works, and stories of their activities by photos and videos on stage, and the last part will be Dream Performance Show by a magician, a clown and a mime artist. On Wednesday the 6th of March at the Fujimi-machi Community Plaza Matsumoto Kazumasa piano concert will be held from 6 o'clock in the evening. The program includes pieces by Schubert, Chopin, and Beethoven. It will cost 2,000 yen and free of charge for high school students or younger. Infants below school age will not be allowed to this concert. You will have to book your place in advance by phoning 090-3198-1201.

On Saturday the 9th and Sunday the 10th of March the 7th Chef's Bar in Hokuto City will be held at the field adjacent to the Auberge Hotel on Bokujo-dori Street in Kiyosato. 12 chefs in the Yatsugatake area will take part in this year's event. There will be live music, drinks stands and coffee as well as workshops and other activities. On Saturday it will start at 11:45 and goes on until 8 o'clock in the evening and on Sunday it will be 10:45 to 3 o'clock in the afternoon. https://www.yatsugatake-chefsbar.com/

On Saturday the 9th of March at the Yatsugatake Yamabiko Hall a White-day Concert will be held. 5 Hokuto-city related musicians, flutist Iijima Ryo, tenor singer Osawa Arudo, clarinet player Kanda Shogo, French horn player Yamaguchi Keitaro and pianist Saito Kazuya will perform from 2 o'clock in the afternoon. It will cost 2,000 yen and high school students and younger will be free of charge. Inquiries by telephone on 0551-45-8617.

Until Sunday the 21st of April at the Hirata family residence, the 17th century Japanese farm house which is listed as one of the National important cultural property, Hina-kazari, dolls day decorations will be displayed. They are on winter schedule until the 24th of March, which is only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and then go on to summer schedule which is they will be shut on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On Friday the 16th of February at the Woodpecker camp site in Tsugane there will be a star gazing evening organised for Hokuto City residents. It will start at 8 o'clock in the evening for an hour with lecturer Miyashita Isao. It will cost 500 yen. Children with parents are welcome. You will have to book your place by telephoning to the Hokuto City Lifelong Education Department on 0551-42-1373 between Friday the 2nd and 9th of February.

The annual “Samutoku - The Colder it is the Cheaper it becomes Fair" in Yatsugatake area is on-going until Sunday the 18th of February. If the temperature at 10 o’clock in the morning at JR Kiyosato Station is lower than 5 degrees various items at the participating venues will become 10% cheaper, if it is below zero, 20% cheaper, and if it is minus 5 or lower the prices will come down by 30%. You can check the temperature on their website every morning. This year 33 restaurants, shops, activities and accommodations in Hokuto-shi, Fujimi-machi, and Hara-mura are taking part in this event. The final day, Sunday the 18th of February, will be "30% off day" whatever the temperature would be!
