Call for Entries: The 10th Yatsugatake Photo Contest "Yatsugatake Photo Session"
If you love Yatsugatake, you surely have a special photo and story close to your heart. This photo contest invites you to share your heartfelt photos and the cherished stories behind those precious shots.
There are two categories: "Photos featuring Yatsugatake" and "Photos taken within the Yatsugatake Area."
Submissions are accepted until Saturday, January 31st.

◇Mini Zoo to Play with Alpacas
This special mini-zoo is open on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays until Sunday, March 15th.
Location is Kids' Snow Land, Fujimi Kogen Ski Resort in Fujimi-machi, Nagano Prefecture. Fluffy alpacas will be visiting the ski resort. You can touch and play with these cute alpacas.

The 65th Neela Rakugo Show: "Benkyo Challenges the Futatsume Rank!"
The event will be held on Saturday, January 24th, from 2:30 PM. The venue is Zozen-in Temple in Chuo-cho, Nirasaki City.
Shunputei Benkyo, who is from Nirasaki City, will take on Harusame Hareta, a futatsume-rank Rakugo storyteller.
Enjoy a total of four Rakugo stories, traditional Japanese comic storytelling, performed by Shunputei Benkyo and Harusame Hareta.
The event is organized by Benkyo Rakugo-kai. Admission fee is 2,000 yen for adults, and 1,000 yen for students and children. For applications and inquiries, please contact Shumpuutei Benkyo at 090-6153-5474.

DRAGON NIGHT – The Ryuo Station Light Festival
The lights will be on daily from 5 PM to 9:30 PM until Saturday, January 31st. The event takes place at the north and south square in front of JR Ryuo Station.
The lighting design, which beautifully decorates Ryuo Station, is supervised by Candle Jun, a renowned candle artist and spatial designer in Japan.
Enjoy this special time that colors the winter nights.

Yatsugatake Wildlife Observation: Introductory Winter Bird Watching
This event will take place on Sunday, January 18th, from 9 AM to noon. The location is the Yatsugatake Nature Fureai Center in Hokuto City.
This introductory bird watching event is designed for beginners and families. Rangers will provide thorough guidance on how to use binoculars and find wild birds, covering the basics.
The event is open to participants from the 3rd grade and above, with a capacity of 15 people, and participation is free of charge.

八ケ岳いきもの観察会 バードウォッチング入門（冬鳥編）
1月18日日曜日午前9時から正午まで行われます。
場所は、北杜市大泉町の山梨県立八ヶ岳自然ふれあいセンターです。
初心者・親子向けのバードウォッチング入門。双眼鏡の使い方や野鳥の探し方など、レンジャーが基本から丁寧にご案内します。
対象は、小学3年生以上。定員は15人、参加無料。

Let's Sing Together!
This sing-along event will be held on Thursday, January 29th, from 1:30 PM to 3 PM. The location is Nicori in Niirasaki City.
Come enjoy heartwarming children's songs and traditional melodies. The instructor will be Ms. Hiromi Hoshi, a choral conductor.
The event has a capacity of 50 participants, and participation is free.

The hot sauna experience "Hokuto Tonou" is back this winter in Hokuto!
The 'Hokuto Tonou' campaign encourages locals and visitors to visit saunas in Hokuto City, taking advantage of the cold winter season until March 8th.
This year, participating facilities are expanded to include not only saunas but also restaurants. During the campaign, anyone who shows the follow screen of the official Hokuto City Instagram at participating saunas and restaurants will receive a "Hokuto Tonou sticker" as a gift!
Additionally, those who respond to our survey during this period will be entered into a draw to win original goods.

Mochitsuki Event 2026
Join us on Saturday, January 10th, starting at 2 PM for the Mochitsuki event! The location is Nikori in Nirasaki City.
Coming New Year will be celebrated by making rice cakes in a traditional way. Enjoy mochi-making performances, a children’s mochi-making experience, and free servings of sweet red bean soup, known as ‘oshiruko’!

Trekking the Yatsugatake: A Footpath Tour of Historical Spots in Kobuchisawa
This guided walk event will be held on Saturday, January 17th, from 9 AM to 12:30 PM. Participants will enjoy the nostalgic satoyama landscapes of Kobuchisawa! The starting point is at Baba no Sato in Hokuto City.
As reflecting on the old lifestyles in Kobuchisawa, why don’t you take a leisurely walk, feeling the sound of the wind and the fragrance of the trees?
The event is open to participants aged 3rd grade and above. There is a limit of 20 participants, and it is free to join.

A Guided Walk - A Stroll in Kiyosato Forest –
The guided walks will take place every Saturday from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM and every Sunday and holiday from 11:00 AM to noon during December and January. The location is the Yatsugatake Nature Fureai Center in Hokuto City.
How much snowfall is expected this winter? Amid the severe cold, there are beautiful landscapes and resilient creatures living their lives. Join a ranger to explore the beauty of Kiyosato.
Each walk is limited to 15 participants, and attendance is free of charge.

Vote for the New Character Name!
This vote is happening until Saturday, January 10th for Hokuto city libraries. Please use the ballots available at each library or the designated QR code.
Hokuto City Library has created a new character inspired by the animal "Todo" (Steller's Sea Lion). The name for this lovable new character will be decided through an election process.
Please choose one from the following five options selected from numerous submissions by high school students in Hokuto City:

◇Opening Information for Fujimi Kogen Resort
The ski resort will open on Saturday, December 20th. The location is Fujimi Kogen Ski Resort in Fujimi-cho, Nagano Prefecture.
There are three courses available for both adults and children to enjoy: the "Romance Course," which is for beginners, and the "Center Course," which is for intermediate and advanced skiers.
There is also the separate sledding area, "Kids Snow Land." We hope to welcome many visitors this season.
